Student Immunisation & Infectious Diseases Policy

The Infectious Diseases Policy has been developed to provide direction to nursing students on the infectious diseases' policies and programs of the School of Nursing & Midwifery (SNM).

In the absence of binding National and/or State infectious diseases' policies and legislation specifically covering nursing students, nursing schools have a responsibility to develop and implement infectious diseases policies and programs. However, the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), the Australian Medical Association (AMA) and the Australian Medical Students' Association (AMSA) have developed a series of broad policies regarding the screening, immunisation and management of infectious diseases and blood-borne viruses. This policy is in accordance with the NHMRC, AMA and AMSA policies but is targeted specifically at medical stduents.

This policy was adopted in 2002 and subsequently revised in 2004, 2005 and 2006 by the SNM for nursing students
